Exporting
Doco Translate lets you export translated documents in multiple formats for sharing, archiving, or further use.
Export Formats
Exports the translated content as a standard PDF file. The exported PDF preserves:
- Page dimensions matching the original document
- Translated text positioned within the page layout
- Font styling and formatting
- Right-to-left layout direction for applicable languages
Bilingual mode: When bilingual export is enabled, each translated page is preceded by the corresponding original page, creating an alternating original/translation layout.
Picture (JPEG)
Exports the translated content as a JPEG image. All pages are combined vertically into a single tall image.
Bilingual mode: Each page is rendered as a side-by-side comparison — the original page on the left and the translated page on the right.
Plain Text
Exports the translated content as a .txt file. Each paragraph is separated by blank lines.
Bilingual mode: Each paragraph pair shows the original text followed by the translated text.
Markdown
Exports the translated content as a .md file within a folder. The export includes:
- A Markdown file with translated text organized by page
- An
images/subfolder containing extracted images (original or translated, depending on settings) - Heading levels based on detected paragraph types (titles as
#, section headers as##) - Images referenced with relative paths
Bilingual mode: Original text is included as blockquotes (>) above each translated paragraph.
Note: Markdown export creates a folder rather than a single file, because it includes associated image assets.
How to Export
- Open a translated document in the translator view.
- Click the Save/Export button (downward arrow icon) in the toolbar.
- The export panel appears with a live preview.
Configure Export Options
In the export panel:

- Location — Click Select to choose where to save the file. The default filename is based on the document name, target language, and export type.

Save
Click Save to generate the export file. A progress indicator shows the export status.
Once complete:
- Click Show in Finder to open the saved file's location.
- Rate the export quality with the thumbs up/down buttons.
Font and Layout Options
Export output respects your current reading settings:
- Font Style — Serif, Sans Serif, Monospace, or Rounded (configured in Settings → Preferences).
- Auto Scale Font Size — When enabled, font sizes are automatically adjusted for readability in the exported PDF.
- Layout Direction — RTL languages are rendered with right-to-left alignment in the export.
Tips
- For quick sharing, use the Picture format — it creates a single image file that's easy to send via messaging apps.
- For archival or printing, use the PDF format for the best fidelity.
- For further editing or publishing, use the Markdown format to get structured text with embedded images.
- For simple text extraction, use the Plain Text format.
