Built-in Services

Doco Translate includes several built-in translation services that require no configuration. These are ideal for quick translations without setting up API keys.

Auto Select

Auto Select automatically chooses the best available translation service based on your configuration. It prioritizes services that are enabled and have valid credentials.

How it works:

1. If you have configured an AI service with a valid API key, Auto Select will prefer it for better quality.
2. If no AI service is available, it falls back to basic translation services (Google, Microsoft, or Yandex).

When to use: This is the default option and works well for most users who want a simple, no-configuration experience.

Google Translate

A widely-used translation service provided by Google.

• API Key: Not required
• Strengths: Fast translation speed, broad language coverage
• Best for: General-purpose translation, quick drafts

Microsoft Translate

A translation service provided by Microsoft.

• API Key: Not required
• Strengths: Good translation quality, strong support for European languages
• Best for: Business documents, European language pairs

Yandex Translate

A translation service provided by Yandex.

• API Key: Not required
• Strengths: Excellent quality for Russian translations, good for Eastern European languages
• Best for: Russian-language documents, Eastern European language pairs

Enabling and Disabling Services

You can manage which services are available in Settings → Services:

1. Each service has a toggle switch to enable or disable it.
2. Disabled services do not appear in the service selector when translating.
3. Basic services (Google, Microsoft, Yandex) are always available and cannot be removed.

Verifying Services

To check if a translation service is working correctly:

1. Go to Settings → Services.
2. Select the service from the list on the left.
3. Click the Verify service button in the top-right corner.
4. The app sends a test translation and reports success or failure.

If verification fails, check your network connection or try a different service.

When to Use Basic Services

Basic translation services are a good choice when:

• You need a quick translation without setting up API keys.
• You're translating common language pairs (e.g., English ↔ Chinese, English ↔ Spanish).
• You don't need the advanced capabilities of AI models (e.g., context-aware translation, glossary support).
• You want to minimize costs.

For higher quality translations, especially for complex or technical documents, consider using AI Services.
